Chambers is an architect emeritus, author and lean operations innovator. For 40+ years, he has devoted his professional career to the healthcare field and has overseen the planning and design of over $10 billion of acute and ambulatory care facilities. Dave has served as Director of Healthcare Facility Research for the Rice University Building Institute and as Director of Architecture Planning and Design for Sutter Health. He is known nationally and internationally for his lean transformation expertise, evolving architectural planning concepts in collaboration with high-level multidisciplinary planning teams by envisioning optimized patient flows as the value stream, driving out waste and enhancing quality outcomes. This process has facilitated deep changes in clinical operations while also planning transformative changes to the environments and facilities that house them.
His planning concepts have led to “one-stop” patient intake and pre-testing centers, integrated interventional services platforms, and deeper implementation of acuity adaptable inpatient nursing platforms.
His book on efficient healthcare design – “Efficient Healthcare – Overcoming Broken Paradigms” - is currently in its second edition. Dave was named one of the “Twenty who are making a difference” in Healthcare Design Magazine as well as “Who’s Who in Facility Management” for Facilities with more than 500 beds in Facility Care Magazine. Most recently, he was named to the 2020 Mavericks 50 List by Builtworlds.
